It seems as though the traditional holiday package has been around for centuries, but in actual fact, this really is not the case. It was only in the 19th century that a certain Tomas Cook sold a package deal to Loughborough, of all places, and ever since the popularity of these deals exploded throughout the end of the 20th century especially.
The popularity of such holiday deals is now waning, however, as more and more people have internet access and all of the flexibility that this offers. Today, people are easily able to secure anything from Villas in Lanzarote to accommodation in the farthest flung corner of Nepal.
It seems that we are not quite so content to just hop a plane, jump on the transfer bus and reside at the same hotel for one or two weeks each year. Life is far too short for many; these people want action and adventure and this means travelling to countries we never thought we would visit in a million years.
Countries like Namibia, or Bolivia, or how about the Mekong Delta in Laos for something really different and off the beaten track?
With the internet in our very homes now, we can play at being a travel agent ourselves and we all become complete experts in travel in next to no time at all.
