Self catering holiday flats have something of a bad reputation, and one which is, it appears, fairly unfounded. While it's true that there are some uncomfortable vacation apartments, it is equally the case that there exist poor-quality hotels.

An enjoyable holiday on self-catering premises is simply a matter of finding a good apartment, and with so many internet databases dedicated to searching for holiday property, this should not be too difficult a task.

Self-catering vacations have several advantages over their more conventional hotel-based counterparts. To start with it is invariably considerably cheaper to rent a flat than it is to stay in an hotel, but it is also a much more authentic experience in many ways. Self catering flats, for example, leave holidaymakers free to sample local cuisines, and to cook their own meals using locally bought ingredients.

In short, a self-catering apartment is often a good alternative to an hotel room. It is cheaper and it also allows for certain freedoms that a more traditional establishment does not.
