Taking Over

When you buy your dream property abroad, you may find that the previous owners have left it in a state which leaves much to be desired and if you only have a couple of weeks holiday to put it right, this can be a dampener on the whole experience.

People often find their new home in a right state – uncleaned, sometimes with vermin and even needing a good Fumigacion from the local pest control firm. It can take days if not weeks of cleaning to get it up to the standard you require and if you are short of time it can feel a never ending task.

Another common problem is that in some countries it is common to take just about everything that is not firmly attached to the walls so do not be surprised if you arrive and find that all the light bulbs have disappeared or even the kitchen units – a nasty surprise to buying your new house!

You have to remember that you are not going to get the house just as you would like it in a short vacation, so take one bit at a time and get the important things done first.

Make sure the house is watertight and rodent free and get one room habitable at a time otherwise it will be an overwhelming task.
