Martello Tower at Felixstowe. Of the eight towers built in 1803, to protect the Deben and Orwell / Stour estuaries some have been lost due to coastal erosion, but three remain, including this one on the golf course.
The seaward walls are 3m (9 foot) thick and inside there is a platform to house the guns. |
